Local reception knowledge
Redhill sits just below the North Downs, so most aerials here point at the Reigate transmitter rather than Crystal Palace, with no loss of channels.
The town centre has changed a lot, with new apartment blocks and redevelopment around the station. Taller buildings can block or reflect the signal for homes behind them, so a picture that used to be fine can start breaking up after nearby construction.
Merstham sits right under the Downs and next to the M23 and M25. Some homes there are in a signal shadow, and the aerial’s exact position on the roof makes a big difference. In Nutfield and Bletchingley, it’s more often trees and ageing equipment that cause problems.

The Reigate transmitter, just over the hill. Because the Downs get in the way of Crystal Palace, most Redhill aerials are better pointed at Reigate.
Usually. We measure at the aerial, then raise or move it, or fit a higher-gain aerial, so it clears the new obstruction.
